Brown flax seeds, also called linseeds, are small oil seeds rich in heart‑healthy omega‑3 fats (alpha‑linolenic acid), fiber and plant compounds called lignans. They provide good amounts of protein and are one of the best plant sources of omega‑3; ground flaxseed (preferred for better digestion) supplies about 2 g of polyunsaturated fats and 2 g of dietary fiber per tablespoon. Sprinkle them on cereal, yogurt or bake them into breads for a nutty crunch.
